Stephanie Lia Kalinsky

“Kaddish” is a body of work that explores the power of text and image, creating both tensions and connotations. In this instance, I am raising issues that might otherwise be dismissed or seen as non-existent. However, it is my hope to take the lessons of the past can be brought to the present, and through using modern techniques stop the unforgettable from being forgotten. I have not used either violent or famous imagery that can often turn terror into consumption; but to allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions of the topic based on their own ideas, to reflect on their perceptions and become aware of their own particular context, and to see that it is not over yet.

I wish to teach art in the future as well as inform people in my own art practice.
