Ben Levitt

After working for some years as a graphic artist, I took the decision to study illustration at Cambridge school of art. It has been inspiring to be able to devote three years to drawing and painting. During the course I have worked in various media, including lino-print, oils, acrylics, and collage but decided to focus on ink and watercolour for my final major project as these better suit the subject.

The title of the project is “Bridging the Cam”: a series of paintings illustrating a journey along the River Cam from Baits Bite Lock to Grantchester during the winter of 2009-2010. The paintings were executed on an assortment of papers including some hand made paper. I was able to exploit the varying textures to achieve different effects. The final sequence of images is presented in book form as an illustrated guide.

After graduation, although all aspects of book illustration interest me, I would love to undertake another project on a similar subject, as this would enable me to combine my interests in place, history and image.
