The title of our degree show ‘Seeing the Ordinary’ was inspired by David Bailey’s wise words and ironically, sums up my body of work and the subject matter. Portraiture is a long lasting theme and interest to many artists, however the concept is so ordinary. In fact, so ordinary to the viewer, that everyday we hardly stop to take notice of a person’s face. I feel that we should stop, we should look and we should engage with each other and take time to take a second glance.
All people are unique, yet we all have the same features. These features help to make each one of us distinctive and recognisable. My work looks at forming a new image. By taking certain features from different individuals, I have in turn created a new human face and therefore a new identity.
