Nightlight

Since the introduction of the electric streetlight in the 1870’s, our night and our view of the night’s sky have continually diminished and it is estimated that 80% of the world’s current population will never see the Milky Way.

Nightlight is a series of images taken at night using long exposures and ambient light, which captures and articulates the effects and causes of light pollution, showing the visual impact rogue light has on our skies and our surroundings. The objective of the project is to raise awareness of the issue of light pollution and to highlight the need to reduce poorly directed and designed lighting. By addressing these issues we would be able to reduce the use of non-renewable resources, sky glow, light trespass and money.
